Dual Degree Agreement jointly signed up by the College of Engineering of CGU and Wayne State University
　

Chang Gung University and Wayne State University (WSU) jointly signed the Dual Degree Agreement on the 26th of January 2016. This agreement provides opportunities for students from CGU’s College of Engineering to attend and complete courses at Wayne State University to supplement their studies. Two study options are available: Students can do three years of undergraduate studies in CGU and then continue to study for two years in WSU, or they can spend one year studying in a master’s program with CGU and then go to WSU to study for one more year in a master’s program. This arrangement can shorten the length of time it takes to earn an American degree and help students acquire international experience. Moreover, it also provides financial advantages and benefits.
 

Distinguished guests from WSU included Dr. Farshad Fotouhi, dean of the Engineering College, Dr. Simon Ng, associate dean of the Engineering College, and Dr. Chih Ping Yeh, chair of the Division of Engineering Technology. Representatives of Chang Gung University included Vice President Prof. Jan-Kan Chen, Prof. Chao-Sung Lai, dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Shing-jiang Lue, chair of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, and several faculty members of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering.
 

This was the first time WSU delegates have visited Chang Gung University. In addition to the development of Chang Gung University, they were also impressed by the size and scale of the College of Engineering after visiting several of its key laboratories. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both sides and covers each and every department and graduate institute of the College of Engineering, including the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, and all other relevant graduate institutes. Its content is summarized as follows.

The 3+2 bachelor’s degree plus master’s degree track
1. Students complete three years of undergraduate studies in CGU and then continue to study for two years in WSU. Those who fulfill all requirements will be conferred a bachelor’s degree by CGU and a master’s degree by WSU.
2. English proficiency requirement: 79 or above in the TOFEL iBT test, or 6.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
3. 2.75 or above in the GPA or ranked in the first quarter during the first three years of studying in CGU.
 

The 1+1 double master’s degree track
1. Students spend one year studying in a master’s program with CGU and then go to WSU to study for one more year in a master’s program. Those who fulfill all requirements will be conferred a master’s degree by CGU and another master’s degree by WSU.
2. During the first year of studying in CGU, students should enrol in courses equivalent to 12 credit points of the courses of the Master of Engineering program of WSU.
3. English proficiency requirement: 79 or above in the TOFEL iBT test, or 6.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
4. 3.0 or above in the GPA during the first year of studying in CGU.

The agreement is expected to bring several advantages and benefits to the College of Engineering, such as personnel exchange of both sides and academic collaboration. In addition, through the dual degree arrangement, students can shorten the length of time it takes to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, or two master’s degrees. This agreement can also boost academic research, international cultural exchange, and diversified learning opportunities. Most significantly, it can enhance students’ competitiveness in the job market.
