Chang Gung University enters the Global Young University Ranking published by the British Times Higher Education Times Higher Education announced a ranking of the top 150 universities under 50 years old, with Taiwan having the highest entry rate across Asia. This year, 5 universities from Taiwan successfully entered the list. They are National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Yang-Ming University, Chang Gung University, National Sun Yat-sen University and Yuan Ze University respectively. Considering our university has a history of less than 30 years, it deserves applause for being ranked within the top 150 youngest universities in the world. For five consecutive years, Times Higher Education has reported rankings of the top 150 universities under 50 years old. The ratings are based on a total of five major areas and thirteen indicators. The performance indicators include teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research), and industry income (innovation). There are a total of 39 countries (areas) having their universities listed. The No 1 rank is École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), which was founded in 1969. It has topped the ranking chart for two years in a row. Four of the top six universities come from Asia. Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University jumps from the fifth position to the second. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology jumps from the fourth place to the third. South Korea's Pohang University of Science and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology drop their rankings to the fifth and the sixth respectively. Twenty universities from East Asia are on the list. The United Kingdom has the most universities entering the chart, with 25 universities on the list. Australia came in second, with 19 universities on the list. Phil Baty, editor of THE World University Rankings, pointed out that these 150 universities with a history of less than 50 years are all young and energetic higher education institutions. What is more impressive is that half of the top 10 universities have a history of less than 30 years.
